Silence scares us. It doesn’t seem natural. Sometimes I wonder if we are so afraid of what we might hear in the silence that we refuse to allow it. Or perhaps, we are afraid that we will hear nothing at all.

Worship Walk

Reviews and Commendations

Reviewed by Johnny Markin, Pastor of Worship Arts at Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, BC Canada.

Having been involved in travelling and church-based worship ministry for many years, I have always been interested in new books, magazine articles and seminars on the topic. These have ranged from fluffy “feel good” explanations, to dry cognitive theological works that leave the reader gasping for something they can understand. What a treat, then, to be sent a book like Worship Walk to review.

As founder and executive director of Make Us Holy Ministries, and as a former worship pastor, Goossen brings a wealth of experience and insight to the subject. It begs, not only to be read, but practiced. (read more,,,)

Hi Gareth,

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. You did a great job of writing and presenting the material. The book is practical and spiritual and I was blessed through reading it.

I appreciate your newsletters and always enjoy hearing what God is doing in your life and ministry. I often pray for you when I receive your communications. I pray God's and richest blessings on you, your family and ministry.

Hello Gareth.

My name is Rick Mills and I live in Virgil, Ontario. I wanted to email and tell you that I bought your book just recently and I am almost finished reading it.(just started chapter 19). Thanks for writing it. It has blessed me and I look forward to the closing chapters.

It wasn't recommended to me by anyone. I just noticed it at a local Christian bookstore and the title spoke to me. I pastor a small congregation here in Niagara on the Lake and was in the process of preparing a series of messages on worship.

So, thanks. It has not only helped me in some areas of preparation but has also spoken to my own heart in a timely manner. We're a congregation of about 80 people and we do understand the call to worship. But we want to keep hearing that call in a clearer manner with each passing day.

Thank you once again. I hope that this email finds you resting in God's glory.

Be Loved.

Gareth;

I have just finished reading Worship Walk and making review notes on it. GREAT job! This should be a study for small groups in every church. It is amazing how far from real worship we are, even in churches that are supposedly up to date with the latest songs and style.

My wife and I are involved (still in the planning stage) with a small group of folks that have a heart for a church that really helps people. First with their daily physical needs and then ultimately with their relationship with God. We have all come from churches that are for the most part introverted and only interested in what the insiders want and Worship Walk was so insightful in showing me that we are on the right path. Our ultimate goal is to worship God in spirit and truth, but we can't get there on Sunday morning alone. Unknowingly we continue to plod along doing church as usual and are so badly missing the presence of God because we haven't seen Him all week.

If you do a sequel, please put me on your mailing list. I had looked for this book for close to a year after reading review articles in Worship Leader magazine. Unfortunately you are not in the bookstores around Georgia and South Carolina. Good, insightful writing on worship is rare. May God bless you, your family, and your ministry.

Gareth,

Greetings. I was able to read your book on the first connecting flight home for the holiday.

WOW. It was amazing. I have to tell you it was not an easy read yet it was an amazing read. I am uneducated so maybe that had something to do with it not being an easy read. Yet maybe it was just so wonderfully convicting that I was struck with my own empty worship. I don't know which it was but what I do know is that it was such an incredible blessing to me. I literally had to sit there with my Bible in one hand and your book in the other on the plane. You had this amazing way of drawing me into the scripture passages. Each passage I would read referenced, intrigue and curiosity took over until I looked up exactly what they had to say. The book drew me to the Word. Wow. I have not had a book do that for me for some time and I read a lot of books.

Thank you so much for not only sensing the call to write the book but as well following through. God used this book in my life and I am confident that He will use it to bless, encourage, convict and spur on many others as well. I will whole heartily endorse your book.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Blessings to you!

Hi, Gayle:

A few weeks ago, when we were meeting about Christian Horizons matters, you kindly gave me a copy of the new book, Worship Walk, by your husband Gareth. It's been a joy and a heart stimulation to read it. Please convey to him my personal greetings and congratulations on producing this significant work.

By the way, you can tell him that I snore, too.

Dear Gareth,

We were doing a sermon series on Worship at the time I read it, and it was a particularly inspiring tool at that time. We were considering the important matter that worship is a lifestyle - not merely something we do on Sundays. Your book was a great added resource. I have my own copy and bought a copy for our church library too!

Thanks for a great book! It was a great read. I could not put it down!!!

Blessings!

Greetings Gareth.

I hope your ministry is going well and your family is enjoying life.

About a year ago you gave me a copy of your book. I put it on my shelf of books to read, a shelf that is full with books that I purchase and that others give me. Over the last few weeks I've been working through your book and just finished it this afternoon. I want to thank you for giving me this book and for writing it. I enjoyed the passion with which you write, the expansive view of worship that you have, and the way in which you share your heart. Your understanding of worship encompasses all of life and covers so many of the attitudes a believer holds and so many of the actions a believer does. I appreciate the breadth of your thinking and writing.

While I have not had lengthy interactions with you, I am grateful for your ministry and for the energy you give to worshiping and helping people to worship. I will keep your book on my shelf and keep it in mind when I preach or teach about worship as I travel.

Rich blessings to you, your ministry and your family.

Hey Gareth,

It's taken some time but I've finally been able to get into your book and I just wanted to let you know that I have been really stirred, moved, challenged and generally rocked me! I've been reading it devotionally rather than informationally and the things you've written have been food to me. So thanks!

I'd love to get this book into the hands of our worship leaders across the country.
